Lt Gen PM Hariz, PVSM, AVSM, SM, VSM is a 1978 batch officer who retired from Service in Nov 17 as the General Officer Commanding in Chief, Southern Command. Lt Gen Hariz hails from Kozhikode, Kerala and did his schooling from Sainik School, Amravathi Nagar, Tamil Nadu. On completing schooling, he joined the National Defence Academy in 1974. After completing his training at NDA and the prestigious Indian Military Academy, he was commissioned in June 1978 into the Mechanised Infantry.
The General has held an illustrious career in the Army spanning 39 years. He has served in varied terrain and held a host of command instructional and staff appointments. On being appointed an Army Commander, he first commanded the Army Training Command, which is responsible for conduct of institutionalized training in the whole Army. He then went on to command the Southern Army in Sep 16, from where he retired on 30 Nov 17.
The General is an alumnus of the prestigious Army Staff College, Camberly, UK and National Defence College, New Delhi. He has an M Phil in Strategic Studies from the Madras University.
